Decent uptide rod which will cast 8oz & bait will cover 90% of fishing out of Dover. Uptide & downtide. Rod will handle up to 11/4 lb for downtide work.
7000 size reel with 25 LB line will cover almost everyting.
Running ledger will do for most bait fishing and gilling on the wrecks
Set of feathers and a few weights .. Thasit.
Stand by for the contrary information ;D

No that sounds good to me. Also you could try a few charters first many will supply tackle, this way you'll get an idea before you start spending cash out.

Yeah i was thinking and looking around at the charters out of there and around that area and was tempted to just go for one that supplies the tackle and see how i get on then look at getting my own. Just wanted to get an idea of what tackle i would need to get me out there.

When I started wrecking a few years ago, I used the skipper's tackle for the first three trips before investing in my own. Also it can be a real pain if you buy £100 quids/whatever worth of gear only to discover that you can't really handle it due to sea-sickness. Saw this happen to a guy once - we went out in a force 5 and he only dipped his shiny new rod a couple of times before turning bright green poor sod. We never saw him again, I felt really sorry for him.
