Hi All, can anyone tell me if it's OK to use any reducer that fits a rod or should i try to get the right one? It's just for reeling in with a multi in the down the butt position - not for casting obviously. ----Thanks Clive

As long as a decent amount of the spigot overlaps it will be fine to use any. If you dont have a decent overlap/push in, then you risk the chance of cracking the butt if applying to much pressure.

Thanks Mate, that sounds like sound advice.

Get the end of the rod whipped & sealed with araldite or similar - then cover with shrink tube to cover up - that will give loads of strength to the end where the reducer fits - mine split there and in hindsight wish I had gotten it whipped - unless it has come 'ready made of course .....
As you say - dont cast with it !

i think that somebody may have the reducers misunderstood, yes you can cast with them in, if you use the reel at the 'bottom' of the rod, above the reducer joint. if you cast with the reel in the 'up position' there is no gain to using a reducer, and the joint is between your bottom hand and the reel, effectivly being put under conpression when casting and liable to break the joint!. hope this helps!

Just to clarify, when i say spigot/push in i meen the reducer to rod butt spigot or pushin.
As Damo said, unless you use the rell at the bottom they are not needed.

Thanks All, points taken, i would just feel more comfortable reeling in (down the butt position) with a reducer in use. DEF. NOT FOR CASTING. ------Thanks again, Clive
