Why do you want a lever drag? I made the mistake of owning an Abu 7000 LD reel it was total Llamas IMHO there are not many applications for lever drags in UK waters except perhaps for Tope. Splash out and get a Daiwa Saltiga SA 30, they have (Again IMHO) the best clutch of any reel of that size. If you must have a lever drag then the small Accurate Boss twin drags take some beating. Spotty Dog were advertising that they do Saltigas and Rok-Max www.rokmax.com/product.php?prodid=117&name=Daiwa+Saltiga+Reels++I think Snowbee were stocking Accurate reels Rok-max also stock Avet LD reels, I remember someone on here recently bought a couple, although masybe not from them. I hear that they are much improved in the last few years, but when I was working in Texas in 2003 and fishing out of Galverston most people were not happy with their durability, particularly the anodising.

One of the guys in our club has a Penn 320 LD which has a level wind and seems to be quite durable and nice to use, dont know if they still make em but you might be able to pick one up on Ebay or something

Hi, I used the abu 7000 ld, the blue one all last year from the beach and pendulum casting (with the levelwind etc removed) and I have just stripped it down for a service, all seems fine. I will use it again this year and hopefully next as well, though I have just bought the new 7000 hsni (the narrow black one) so it may get shoved to the back of the drawer if the new one performs well. Don't have a problem useing the lever drag, it acts just the same as a star drag and as the reel was only £59 it wont hurt if it only last a couple years.

I had one of the blue ones and when it was replaced for the second time because of a seized level wind, I sold it

Id go for Avet all day long, but i have got three! I cant say ive noticed any shortfalls on my Avets, penny for penny they knock spots off most others. Im using em almost exclusively now. You can import em from any number of tackle shops in the states but beware import tax! I also use a Shimano TLD 10 occasionally and its bulletproof with a top drag. IMO if you need/want to set your drag properly its an easier process with a lever drag reel.
