I think a power handle on a 7HT (old, turbo) is maybe asking for trouble. It will give you more cranking power but they are not designed for it and you are more likely to cane the gears sooner rather than later. Remember the reels are designed for fishing over featureless sea beds reeling in small fish. I would just stick with the default handle and see what happens

I would just stick with the default handle and see what happens I think that the 7HT Turbo has the same 'throw' ie. effective radius fron centre of main gear to spindle on thumb as the Abu reels (so its like a double handled power handle) In swapping it and painting it you will just gain a different grip Leave the original one on Colby as GFB says it was meant to be, and not a reel for cranking in big lumps of weed and large fish Dale

I dont know if its true of the new ones but my old HT's hauled in numerous double figure + Smuts when fishing off John Rawles boat out of Bradwell and he was always telling me off for trying to pull their heads off. Had em for years with that sort of treatment...never had a failure wiv em.

if you want a reel for rough or smooth ground then pick up a Penn mag or a slosh 20 you can beast them all day long but don't put a power handle on a 7ht it bends them up like gfb said.

Then it looks like you are goingto have just that! I would leave it colby, dont worry what it looks like. I dont see why you would want a bigger handle if you only want it for light work anyway?

I have the 7ht turbo, it would be a good choice for you fishing in Sandown bay, plenty of poke. No need for the bigger handle though you could do some damage. If you have a few extra pennies go for the 7ht mag, better fishing reel and it offers a lot more control easier.

I would say Abu 6500 or Daiwa 7HT is just a matter of personal preference. Both can cast a long way when used correctly,
