Well, a 6500 with an out of balance spool will still be noisy. Just spend some time sorting that out and if you get either the 6500 or the 7HT it will be smooth and quiet.

If the empty spool itself is unbalanced (can happen if the CNC machinery isn't perfectly calibrated) then even perfect line lay won't help it. I don't know what you mean about a V shaped spool?
My Mags were easier to balance than my Penns, it just takes a bit of time.

Never seen one like that, my 6500 spools have grooves in the middle but my Penns and Slosh30 just have flat spools.

Hmmm, I don't see how the grooves take any load off the side plates, I just thought they were for tieing the line round the spool?
Anyway, whatever you buy will be good. My original point was, don't buy a reel just because someone else's is quiet. These days, as long as you buy a good make (Daiwa, Penn, Abu etc) the bearings are all good. The Penn ABEC5 ceramics are a bit noiser than stainless steel but most reels make noise because the spool is unbalanced, and this can happen to any multiplier!

The new 6500s have a v-shaped spool spindle ie not parallel, it tapers down in dia. to form a vee from the spool inner walls, I think thats what Colby means...look at item no. 250213989180 on ebay
