Hi all, I am looking to buy a boat reel, it has to be strong enough to downtide and built to last a while the only problem is it has to be around £50. its for my nan and she wont be fishing alot so it doesnt have to be the nicest reel to use, just functional.
thanks, scott.

Downtide with 30Lb line max 1.5 lb lead? IMHO theres nothing new out there thats worth having for less than £50, however I would have thought there must be a fair selection of secondhand reels from Penn or Abu that would fill the bill and be available for your budget.
I'll probably get shouted down by people who have great faith in Okuma and the like but in our club experiances of other members has indicated that they dont stand the test of time. In fact few modern reels seem to be as bullet proof as some of the older models by Penn.

iv got a old 624 i lend m8s, slow but solid lumps. and very cheap on e-bay or up the booty(dont pay more than a 10er then you got cash for braid)
as above scottys dont buy a heap of new shite if you can find a good old one. £50 is a very low budget for a boat reel if intending to get out with the bigger fish, so id stick with a 2nd hand proven reel
