So to sum up the year, what are your most memorable fishing moments of 2006? For me, getting my PB bass of 7lb8oz bass ,beach caught (10+ next year) I managed about 12 sizable bass (beach), four over 5lb And, `diving`for a good sole, like i used to in the playground at school when i was NO1 goalie, (i managed to `scoop` a 2lb3oz sole from going back into the sea after it unhooked itself on the edge of the wall) pic taken and returned. All in all, i had a good year i guess ;D Your moments?.........

Yes you've taken some nice ones this year Dave . I've had a bad year for bass. For me, I suppose it would have to be my shore caught PB thornback ray of 9 lb - on a carp rod, which beat the previous PB of 7 lb - caught the night before ! I set my heart on catching some decent sole - which I am glad to say I did. Then there was the surprise codling in early September - the result of pure, dumb luck !

i havnt really had the best year as far as quality of fish goes but i have had alot of fun on the beaches as i tried. i have had a few pb's, not huge fish by most peoples standards but i was well chuffed with em all: bream, 1lb8oz smoothhound, 3lb2oz corkwing wrasse, 6oz pollack, 2lb12oz this years firsts were a SE ray, flounder and rock cook also had my first decent codling in 2 years at 2lb10oz and been present when alot of very nice fish were caught by friends and club members which gives me almost as much pleasure as catching them myself.

The amount of fishing I've done this year is at an all time low which is especially annoying when I made a promise to myself that I wouldnt let work take over my weekends!! But what I will say is that when your fishing time is so scarce you benefit from the time you get to think about it whilst at work & when you do go its usually a calculated affair that's been ran over in your head for the month previous. All our trips beach & boat can be classed as success'es I think in all fairness. I can only remember on one occasion not getting our target . This year we seemed to make alot of progression, none of us fish for clubs anymore so with the boat fishing we didnt have the marks recommended to us or numbers given to us, we purposely avoided the old faithfull marks & experimented with marks that appealed to us for whatever reason & it really paid off. Beach fishing through the summer was just used as a back up plan for designated boat days when the weather didnt play ball but again were successfull & enjoyable. I really enjoyed all my fishing this year beach and boat equally. 2007 should be good, Ive got a weeks charter fishing booked in Alderney for late May so this should set the bench mark for the rest of the year!

I would add another memorable moment for this year: being almost in at the birth of the excellent new fishing site - BeachandBoat.

2006 has been a great year for me. I've got back into fishing after a 10 year absence. I'm still like an excited schoolboy before I go out on an early morning session, I seem to be checking the time every half hour from about 2am!
Best achievement: My largest ray (17.5lbs) - mentioned elsewhere - Still buzzing from it!
Most moving fishing experience: Seeing my 4 year old son set up a rod, cast and land a schoolie down at Newtown Creek.
Most confidence building session: Walking a 5 mile round trip with my spinning gear, down to Hamstead beach from the main road, all the way the mouth of Newtown Creek, spinning all the time. This caught me my first ever bass and first ever fish while spinning. Hottest day of the year too!
Most relaxing: Brook beach, mid-summer, shorts and T-shirt. Wading waist deep into the surf, catching bass, mackerel and scad.
Scariest moment. 3am, pitch black, howling gale, Hamstead beach, alone - Brown Trousers-R-US - Nuff said!
Most Life Threatening moment: Being a gnats c0ck from being cut off while fishing round the point at Brighstone beach during a gale, alone, at night. Tore a calf muscle on the way back I was running so hard. Also nearly being blown from Alum Bay Pier...
Best suprise: Conger from Alum Bay. Making new friends from the forums!
Biggest dissapointment: Yarmouth Pier - You can keep your cheek-by-jowl fishing experiences, I'd rather try somewhere new.
Good luck in the new year fellas. I've got lots of new things to try and places to blank at. If I get half as much out of next year as I did this year I'll be a happy man.
All the best,
Steve.
