As usual ive been sniffing around for info to make life easier for my beach fishing,it seems that a Diamite "larger bore" tip ring is a popular addition to fit onto traditional beach rods when faced with endless weedy sessions that clog conventional tip eyes. Having said that,I also read that these eyes "although" a help in the weed department are also a very tuff construction and are quite heavy and are frowned upon by rod builders as they effect casting.....which beggers belief ...but opinions are there all the same. anybody use Diamite Tip rings at all... Yep, love em. One of my Conoflex is built using Swift zirconium carbide rings (meant to be the strongest available, last time I looked anyway) but even that got smashed so replaced it with one of these. I'm a clumsy bugger and break tip rings quite often so they always get replaced with one of these. Some people claim they are too expensive but they're only about a quid more I think than Fujis etc As for affecting casting? Maybe on the field it might cost you 10 yards or so but for fishing, can't see the logic really. PS how's this for a bit of hype advertising nadgers

Got them on all my beach rods - first mod I would make.
I've broke too many lined tip rings in the past. Just keep an eye out for corrosion, sometimes the braze gives up after a few years.

just a point to remember, lots of people fit them so they don't get probs with weed jamming in the tip, fitting a diamite tip ring will not help if the next eye down is the same size( most modern rods have the tip and first one or two eyes the same dia) i've got them fitted to two of my rods with no probs, but it just comes down to personel preference!

I've always thought the reason people used Diamite tips was that you can't 'pop' the inner ring out with weed, because they're one piece - same difference i suppose. One thing I do know for sure is that heavier rings (like these) do have a negative affect on rod action and feel during casting, with the rings closest the tip having the most negative effect - I think this is why some of the Daiwa range have single leg rings on the tip section - to save weight, and keep the blank responsive. If you ever get the chance to see it, there's a good explanation on a rod building video made by Phil Hyde (I think) - he does a test and everything. The results are quite clear cut. Having said all that - I have Diamites on the majority of my beach rods as I would be sick if a tip ring popped on me after I'd walked a couple of miles along Chesil!

It was Phil I was speaking to about these little gems,as he is all for "adding lightness to create casting speed" with zircons a firm fav of his. He was saying by adding 1..2 ..3 diamite top rings it is the same as wrapping lead core wire around your rod tip and casting will effectively reduce the tip speed on the cast......... he being of the aerial pend casts..I spose he says it slows everything down. Me not being a casting instructor,I think ill fit em to me rock rods. as others have said, added security when the dreaded weed is about. Gazza
