Hi all, thought i'd teach myself how to tie a few different rigs, so i bought 6 assorted designs of the tidewater rigs -- cheap but i thought they would at least do for a pattern (learning process & all that). Of the 6 - 2 had incorrect hook sizes -- no big deal i suppose-- 1 had a broken bait clip & the pulley rig was made up wrong with a snood & the main line swopped around - took a while to work that one out as i'd not seen one before.--DOH! I know you only get what you pay for but they should still me fit for purpose !!! OK had my moan in fact i learnt a thing or two, time i'd buggered around with them at least i knew the top from the bottom. ;D Wouldn't recomend them though. --See ya, clive

Have done the same in the past mate but Sean and I now invent our own too: I particularly wanted a two hook jobbie which was relatively tangle free and used a zipslider to hold the lead. Want to try it: Main body (on which the zip slides) is 18" - 2ft of 40lb BS and is tied at the top to a french boom which has been shortened to about 6 ". Attached to business end of boom is a 1 ft hook snood through a swivel. At the bottom end is another swivel to which is tied a 15 - 18 inch hook snood which goes through a short length of tubing held in place by a bead and crimp. It is this tubing (I use old electrical cable sheath) which helps prevent the bottom snood from tangling round the lead. Caught me a 5 lb bass on this rig yesterday.

Hi Eccles, thanks for the info - just drew it on a piece of paper to get a better idea how it looks/works. Looks like i might be making a couple of "Eccles rigs" at the weekend - even if i can't get some fishing time in at the moment i can get pleasure from (trying) making rigs & bits. I made a priest from some copper pipe and some lead recently - think i was a bit too free with the lead -it's either modify it or get Toe-tecta wellies LOL ! Might be handy if i get burgled.

Oh Silver, Forgot to mention that I "modify" the french booms by putting them in a vice and twisting a loop at the top and bottom of the triangle so to speak. I think I might just get some stainless wire and make me own version in future rather than mess up a perfectly good french boom. I also do me own two hook clipped down rigs these days (trying to catch plaice at distance): I use 60 lb main body because it is nice and thick the plastic relay clips pretty well stay put but can be slid up or down to accommodate the snood length easily. I also use those short nylon booms for the hook snoods, again because they help to reduce tangling but have never seen them on "commercial" clipped down rigs. Seems obvious to me, maybe I had better go into production and make meself a few bob out of the lazy anglers (LOL)
