I prefer solid colour lines for main line (i.e. not see-through). I don't know why but over the years they've given me more confidence than the clear lines. My favourite is Ultima Distance - its a solid yellow/gold in colour, lasts well but is cheap enough that when you think you 'should' change your line you can do so without digging deep - I think that's a big concideration - if you can change your line more regularly it's going to result in less breaks. Hardly use anything else off the beach although I'd be tempted to use a clear line for anything a bit stealthy or spinning etc.

I think I must be a bit of a freak after looking at all the posts on this subject !! I use the following combi for all my fishing (boat and shore....all reels). I have 20lb fireline braid as main (cuts tide trouble by half) with any decent 60lb mono as a (fairly short) shock. Never had any problems with crack offs, casting, abrasion resistance etc and the fireline lasts for about six years if you look after it. Expensive initial outlay......but WELL WORTH IT IMHO FOR PEACE OF MIND.
Regards All and Happy New Year.
Andy.
