With a new year almost here Im in the market for a new rod (call it a late xmas prezzie to myself). I know that rod selection is a very personal thing but what qualities should I look for in a good rod? I dont mind spending proper money but want to do it wisely. Your help/suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks Bill

before you buy bend it, check for flat spots, check they have not gone mental with the varnish as well, check for quaility fittings dont be talked into anything it is very much a idividual thing, is it for beach fishing? if so you need to be aware that some ratings i.e 4oz to 8oz are sometimes unrealistic.... if poss try as many rods as you can cast your friends etc... many times i have rushed into a rod going with the sheep and its been no good for me!if you are spending big money then make the right choice, what kind of rod are you after? perhaps run a poll on here on the type you want and get a wide review on many makes?

it really depends on what your looking for in a rod if you want a powerful blank then the way you check is grip the rod just above the reel and just below the first ring and bend it backwards if its easy to bend its light and if its stiff its heavy if a reel is not icluded then go to the local car boot sale were there on display for a fair price
