Now this seem daft to some of the more experienced fishermen, but to us novices there are terms that come up, and some of us are not totally sure what you mean.
For example
What is uptiding? What is downtiding? What is the difference between a uptide rod and downtide rode ?
Feel free to add other terms you may think are useful

Uptiding was made popular by Bob Cox and John Rawle who hale from the East Coast out of Bradwell in Essex.
You have a casting rod of about 9ft 6" and cast away towards the front of the boat out of the "scare" area. This is the noise from the boat at anchor and the people on it. There have been many articles written on how to use this method and a quick search on Google will I am sure answer most of the questions and be given better answers than I can.
Downtiding is casting away from the back of the boat or just dropping the weight and lifting the lead and allowing the lead to go downtide away from the boat. Usal boat rods work here, although you can use an uptider to downtide if you wanted too.
Hope this helps

Also, uptiding, nails the bait harder to the bottom (so i`m told). The same can be achieved by just dropping down, but letting out a shed load of line, but like i say, thats what i`m told.
