Offered for auction is our Flying fox 17 Sportsfish centre console water –ready package consisting of boat, 75hp mariner outboard, 4hp auxillary, snipe rollercoaster trailer, full electronics package & accessories.
History
The flying fox model was designed & built for harbour & waterway patrols around the world. London River Police still patrol from one. The build quality & fittings are second to none. Outhill Boat Builders promoted the boat to the pleasure boating market but the exceptional build quality dictated a high price which could not compete with the likes of boats built specifically for the pleasure boat market such as Orkney & Shetland etc therefore these exceptional good sea boats are rarely seen for sale.
This package has had 2 owners since new (approx 1996).
Owner no.1 was Steve Pitts who made the dvd ' Still Hooked on Bass' aboard her with Mike Ladle.
The boat
Length - 17 ft (5.20mtr’s) Beam - 6 ft 6 inches (2.00mtr’s) Original gel-coat & original decal's.
A very fast angling boat that planes quickly at low rev’s. The hull is rated to a maximum 135 horse power. With the 75hp mariner outboard it is capable of well over 30 knots with 2 men & all the gear needed for a days fishing, it will also be ideal for water-skiing.
It is the driest open boat I have ever been on & the Solent is more than an adequate test.
At anchor she is a very stable platform & even with two anglers on the same side there is minimum pitch.
The deck remains clear due to lots of storage aboard incorporated under seating for 7 people. The anchor, chain & warp is stored below the fore-deck.
Fishing is comfortable with two / three anglers.
The driving bench seat back rest moves from front to back to give a backrest for fishing out the back or driving alike.
There are stainless handrails to both bow & stern & grab rails to the centre console.
The boat is fitted with 2 upright rod holders on the centre console, six rod holder under the gunnels, 4 rod gunnel inserts, & three rail mounted holders.
The engine’s
Electric start Mariner 75hp Auto-lube with electric trim & tilt, ‘FX’ hydrofoil system fitted. Professionally fitted from new (1996). Spare prop in box. Serial no. 09678295
Auxillary - 4hp Mercury long shaft, integral tank 1998, serial no. 09989849.
Both engines have been serviced after every summer season . They are flushed through with fresh water & the carb’s drained of petrol after every use to avoid sediment build up.
Trailer
Rollercoaster 1 trailer by Indespension makes launch & recovery easy. Bearings just renewed. Pneumatic jockey wheel.
Electronics
Complete re-wire Winter ’06.
Battery with isolating switch to switchable 6 point fuse board (on centre console) isolating each component to avoid battery drain.
Full Perko navigation lighting system including detachable mast with mast light.
At console there is a power supply (cigarette lighter type) with an independent waterproof toggle switch that we use to power a handheld spot light (included) but this could be used for phone chargers etc.
Also at console is MPH & RPM counters (MPH Speedo not connected, speed given by GPS)
Garmin 12 channel 126 GPS
Auxilary handheld Garmin GPS11
Eagle Cuda 168 Sounder / fishfinder
2 x handheld silva M298 VHF transceiver’s
Quicksilver Volans dash-mounted compass.
Accessories
Too many to list, 3 remote tanks, two leads, anchor, chain & warp, oars, spare battery, flare pack, gas life jackets, tool kit & much more!
Condition
The boat, engine’s, trailer & all kit is in exceptionally good condition. The previous owner maintained her meticulously, in our ownership it has been kept in a heated garage & kept to the same standard. The only fault is that the speedo is not connected but this is void because the GPS displays speed.
