I've fished what I would class as Farlington Marshes only once & that was many moons ago (12 or 13yrs ago) & as far as I can remember it only produced shoalies. I like the look of the place, it looks really fishy, muddy shallow water with plenty of deep gullies (typical flounder territory!). I dont think generally its considered by many pompey anglers because its a nature reserve, you would probably suffer a few rolled eyes from the twitchers there. It is a massive area so there will be good & bad bits. I know just round the corner 'Buds Farm' has given some good bass to anglers prepared to walk out on the mud flats (not advised!!) & fish directly into a chanel working your way back with the flooding tide. It involves taking a bit of ply to stand on & filling your pockets with bait & spare tackle. Remember that any of those marks at the back of Langstone Harbour are bass nursery areas. Bass & flounder should be the recipe of the day. Goodluck!

I've often wondered the same about that mark, it juts out into langstone harbour quite a way. Be nice if it fished like Tipner can. Never fished it myself but have seen a small shoal of fair bass ( not thick lips) between the island and the bird reserve one summer on a walk. I might make the effort on this one,be nice to get a decent flounder. There still doesnt seem to be decent numbers of flounders in langstone this year, cant understand it .

Its been the same story the last few years Daren, I knew boat owners that never ventured out of langstone because there was all year round fishing. Even the lads that did push out into the Solent would fish Langstone around this time of year for the flounder. You remember all the boats on the beach from the locks (Thatched house) round to the 3 lakes area? all gone now, pity! One theory is the amount of Bass there have gorged themselves on the baby flounder however someone on the forum did say that their nets still contain plenty of small palm size flounder in langstone, easy pickings for a bass no doubt!

Yeah I guess thats as good a theory as any other I've heard, shame we cant have both. Budds wall has always fished ok for flatties in the past, be a shame if it disappears now. These nets, are they oystering?

Yeh, pondered over that myself whilst posting it just then? The original post is somewhere on the old forum, when I get chance I'll see if I can find it.

I actually know the reason for the shortage of flounders: 3 or 4 years ago a couple of yobbos bought a small boat with inboard diesel and some secondhand nets. They the proceeded over a couple of years to net every flounder they could get at night in Langstone. For why? - To sell them for pot bait; they made a nice little killing and then moved on somewhere else so I was reliably informed. I guess it is going to take a while longer yet before stocks are back up to where they used to be.

Love crabmeat my favourite Shame they use good fish as bait whilst netters throw back all that bycatch, think they could help each other out there. Some Weymouth potters used to use a lot of wrasse for the same reason.
