I had a walk along Deal sea front taking a few pics this morning, and when i got to sandown castle, on the deal golf course side, i found a load of fish dumped in the corner dead, they couldnt have been washed up, as i was along the same stretch last night and the tide was no where near as high as the fish were. There were also a lot of others scattered about, probably due to the gulls. Dean wondered if a match had taken place and the fish were dumped after the weigh in. If this is the case, is it not time to make all matches measure and release, as i cant see the point of good dabs and whiting being wasted like this. It cant do the sport any good, when non-anglers see whats been done. Does anyone else think weigh-ins should be the thing of the past?

F*****g discusting !!!!!!! , you hit the nail right on the head there mick , weigh ins should be a thing of the past , and catch weigh and release , should be introduced in all matches ,well if that is the result of a weigh in , then they should be ashamed to be called anglers !!!! the antis would have a field day on this 1 , !!!!!!!! lee.

I'm not a match angler. I'm not a total catch & release angler. I'm an angler who delights in taking legal sized fish he has caught, home for the table - within reasonable limits. But which ever angle you come at this from - this is a pointless, stupid waste. And as has been said, is irresponsible - giving fuel to the cause of those who would wish to see an end to our sport.

Theres absolutely no shame in taking a legal sized fish home for the table , but when i see pictures like that , then im afraid it discusts me and makes me ashamed to be called a angler , as for club comps all you need is a few match marshalls dotted along the beach , to record , weigh and then release the fish , it works well for us in our club why not everywhere else !!!!!!! lee.

Don't let your (and my) disgust at the actions of some tw@t make you feel ashamed Lee. It is they who do not deserve the title of 'angler'. The method of recording catches at your club certainly sounds the way to go for comps.

Right on mick , i dont mean to get angry , but this is a real terrible waste , and theres absolutely no need for it , things need , and must change for the future of the sport !!!!!! , Keep all the fish you are going to eat by all means and enjoy the taste ..... but i do hate to see a shoreline graveyard !!!!!!!

Can we not find out if a comp was held & let all know which one it was - name & shame. I enjoy my fishing, I fish for pleasure, take 1 or 2 home for the pot. I also fish competitions but as a matter of principal will not fish a comp unless it is catch & release - that photo is the reason why ....

i have checked in the local mercury and there aws not a match on saturday night so it could be local idiots. having said that i do fish the very odd match which i do enjoy but have to admit that after the xmas match which was a weighed in comp there was hundreds of fish left as there was little use for them. there is a simple way of stopping this as we discussed in the tackle shop earlier, have a points system for fish 1pt for whiting up to 10pt for a codling and have a steward sign your card with each fish. also have weighed in comps but increase the size significantly so taking out the small stuff, the whiting i weighed in were all around 27 to 30 cm so still very small,if this was made minimum of 36 cm only 1 of my whiting would have been weighed in.and i would have put the other 10 back and had a decent fish to take home. i will think long and hard befor i fish a match of that format again. i must say that is something coarse angling has got right,in 10 years fishing the odd comp i have only lost a handfull of fish that swallowed the hook and put back everything else unharmed.even seperate nets for diff fish are required now. all angling should be encouraged and the ways to stop this must be found,we should not become anti comps as this is a strong part of the angling economy.as mick said earlier in the week loads of kids were fishing a match and having a great time and importantly spending money in local tackle shops, this is a tough one to sort out.

Dean absolutly spot on , you have the right idea , and wish more anglers thought the way you did !!!!!, there is nothing wrong with match angling or a local club comp as long as the points system is done in the right way ,i. e . the weigh in and points system , as you all have seen , and may not a gree, but we have to have a catch and release , points system , where we get the same results , and see no more of the pics that mick has shown !!!!!! im sorry if you dont see my point oif view , but i will express it any way !!!!
