To get the new board off to a start, whats our members favorite plugs, lures ect....? I have had most success myself on bubble floats and the small two inch white whitebait lures. For lures so small, you cant under estimate the size of the bass you get on them! Also i have had a few `unexpected` bass on a cheap `wrasse` looking popper that most of my fishing buddies laughed at! I don't have much patience with spinning to be honest, as i like putting the rod in the rest and waiting. ;D I like getting the shorts on and wading around the rocks every now and then, so any tips from you guys would be good! Cheers

Steve's top 5 bass lures (in "first out of the bag once on the beach" order):
Dexter Wedge - Great casting, you can cover a massive amount of ground with this one. Maria Angel Kiss - Best casting plug I have. Maria Chase - Slightly smaller than the Angel Kiss. Transparent Rapala Jerkbait - For close in. J11 - Again for short range.

In order of most used from the shore
Ragalou 85mm rubber eel - Caught Scad, Shad, Mackerel, Garfish, Pollack and Bass on these.
Storm Shad 3" dark stripped version - Can be devastating for Bass especially in very low light or full darkness.
Abu Toby 4" & 5" in silver with red "fins" - An old favourite, great for flinging into long range shaols of Bass
Rapala Rap Shad 4" in black and silver - First one to try in creeks, Small lagoons or tidal ponds.
I have countless bits of metal, rubber, plastic and jellies and they nearly all get wet at some stage in the summer. I would however be perfectly happy being limited to the four above, I would have a lure for most occassions.

For me there are three main lures that I know will catch, the delta eel - bigger size sorts the bigger bass, the sammy and for wrecking you can't go far wrong with a tiger shad/twin tail. Fly fishing, I find that anything white works well.

Rapala sliver red nose sinking/shallow for turbulent waters over ledges etc. Rapala J13 blue for bright clear days trolling. Rapala xrap swing bait for casting from rocks. Never caught anything on the dexter wedge must be doing it wrong. Just received Yo-Zuri deep diver and Maria angel or some silly name from Veals also VMC Strike Pro from Majorca will give verdict on these when I can get out.

Have had some success recently with "Bass feathers" - similar to mackie feathers but size 1/0 hooks and a larger, more elaborate lure with green beads, shiny bits, and only four of them to the line. Now intend to add a Grauvell "Turbulence wedge" to the back end. This wedge is "noisier" and has more action than the Dexter. My favourite which has taken plenty of bass over the last few years is a Redgill eel tied about 18 inches behind a 1 oz drilled bullet for casting distance. Always use a slim, light Abu 9' 6" uptider rod for casting because I can cast it over and over around 80 yds without getting knackered.

I'v spent a fair bit of cash on the usual lures eg- raps, abu tormentor, teklon dna,chug-bug,maria chase, thunderstick etc.. all have caught but only when matched to the bait the fish are chasing but for me as solehunter says a bubble float and little white bit of rubber is the most consistant for me along with the' never leave home without it'-the dexter wedge.

Just seen this forum. Must say that plugging is my favourite form of fishing, but really I should give fly a go. I do it in a boat, for bass. I've got the usual bucket full of rusty crap, but the first ones out have been the following. Abu tormentor - well, it was. Had one which was great. Lost it. A few others which are much less good. Maria Angel Kiss - my new favourite. Haven't used it enough to be sure, but first few goes look like it is catching more than its share. Storm shads. J13 (or J11) - grey seem to be better than blue for me Poppers - anything they will take. I dont seem to find the right conditions for catching on poppers that often (certianly not this week), but when they will it is .....ohhhh yeah baby. Ahem. But basically i would rather have a rusty safety pin in the water than be stuck at home with this weather.
