When I was at Sea in the Merchant Navy we spent some time at anchor off Dundee . fishing over the side of the ship we had massive bags of Dabs using chicken livers for bait. if you wanted to try them from the shore you would have to bind them on the hook to withstand casting as they are rather soft>

Many moons ago, in a little trout stream, in Dorset, just 200 yds from the beach where the river had ran its course, and had reached its destination, sea trout used to enter the river, and i prebated the pools the day before, with small hook sized portions, size 12, and would fish these pools the following day, trot a bait just of the bottom, there was no messing about the float would just shoot under with no warning nibble, they loved it, the fish i had were fresh run sea trout as some still had lice on , brown trout, had a flounder, eels as well, a bit soft but did stay on the hook, i now this is technicly river fishing-but have fed the mullet in the marina, they seemed to enjoy it? yet to try it at sea-and it was KRAFT CHEESE SLICES Graham

I remember catching a plaice halfway down Southend pier, many moons ago, on a piece of fresh pineapple. We tried tinned pineapple after that without success, went back to the fresh pineapple and it worked again!!!

Fishing out of Plymouth in the early 70's on Artilleryman... yes I still bear the scars. I caught a Pollock of 15Lb+ gilling with a Banana skin. Just to P$ss Geordie off and boy did it work

was shore fishing in salthouse in norfolk using past their best lugs, when a guy stopped and asked if i had caught much.he suggested giving my bait a squirt with wd40,sure enough after a five minute drive to get some,i was straight into some resonable dabs and sizeable flounders.always used it since.anyone else heard about this as i had a mate mention it years ago.?
