In my opinion i think pout is very under rated bait ,congers love em ,bass ,cod rays seam to love them, even the pout wont say no to a slither, dead or alive ,i think its a good choice bait ! what do you think

Yeah it is. It's just some people are happy catching pout alone all night and wouldn't think if it was used as bait they might catch something better

As our premier sport fish, I can't condone the use of pouting for bait!

I was fishing at a spot in Cowes at the end of September and was catching small pout and throwing them back. A chap walked onto the place where I was fishing, and asked me why I was throwing them back in as there was a lot of bass about and they would be brilliant bait. He then showed me how to put them on the line, which trace to use and, sure enough, within an hour, I had a nice, 4lb bass. During the next 5 weeks, I caught 30 odd bass, the biggest being 6lb10oz. I also lost about 10 bass durig that period, they could have been huge, who knows, lol! I was also fortunate enough during this period, in the same spot to land my 3lb1oz sole, a personal best. I'll always use live pout for bass fishing from now on.

when i took mercury out not alot was happening until a pout took his cod bait (worm),Mercury see the bite and waited a bit, 10 min's later a 4lb cod took the live pout !says it all really ,theres so many of the little buggers out there it makes sence that most fish are going to feast on them .just so readily available all year round
