Can anyone help. I am looking to buy a shrimping net. Unfortunately, I can only find nets up to about 2 1/2 feet in with. When I was younger I used to use a net that was about 4 feet wide and am looking for something similar.

Have a look here mate www.glaucus.org.uk/SHRIMPING.htmSome good info and there is a shop link at the foot of the page!

I'm gonna have a bash at making my own, looks fairly straight forward. When does the "shrimping season" start? May well kick up some nice sandeel livebait while I'm at it!

The prawn season is in full flight around august over here. When fishing from yarmouth common around that time, you can hear the small bass surfacing and chasing them all night so that is a good place to go at low water. Brook ledge is also full of prawns in amongst the weed, as is totland rocks. We get them there just by looking in the rock pools, but shoving a push net through the weed must be a better option. Remember, they like it dark, so get in the kelp and under rocks.

the spawn prawns arrive in march on the sand and mud of freshwater bay where the locals get them in pots by the kilo!!.! Then they diperse unto rock ledges that is when the prawn boys stop!but as dave said yarmouth common is the place for push net but not till august! as it is shallow weedy and not to rocky is the best place I know dont think your get any sandeell but you will get weever if you are the south of the island(compton has loads)! If of yarmouth common be careful as you may get quite a few sea horses we dont want to kill them!
