i know there is a nanny culture when it concerns putting a live fish on a hook as bait but was wanting to give it a try this summer and wondered if any one can tell me how to catch them and were from.

it is easy around here mate all our fish are livebait. stick a 5o hook on and just hook it through the nose and the fish does the rest. we use pouting or very small whiting for this job.normally the fish can go back if you hook it lightly.

small pollock, rock blennies, wrasse can be top choice for live baiting for bass too I use baited shrimp feathers down side of pier with bits of worm on.

I used to catch live bait while pier fishing, just using small hooks with strips for bait a very light rod and dangle it down the side. I would cast out, attach live bait to separate rig and slide it down the main line. I hope this helps

Not tried it as yet but on advice taken from the forum I bought some Launce feathers made by grauvell, loads of different styles, I went for simple silver macky feather looking ones. Chomping at the bit for summertime! Bill

live bait has got me some of my best fish, bass and tope love it more than any other bait i use mackerel and sandeel when its avaliable. other wise its pout, scad, wrasse , gobys, shrimps, garfish, and bream all do a great job for them big bass
also if you plan to go tope fishing early in the year befor the mackerel come in, get in touch with any fresh water anglers you know and get them to keep some big commoon / silver eels and freeze them down ready for the spring. thay work a treat for tope befor live bait come avalible cheers john
