Hi Andy There are models for paddlers of different weights and sizes. A lot of sit on top kayak models are designed for the *ahem* larger American paddler. Given your weight, you'd be looking at a kayak which has a max weight capacity (volume) of at least 400lbs (after allowing for gear and clothing and a bit extra just in case). Your Malibu 2, would have been ok for inshore, short distance work but if you are buying for yourself better to go for a single kayak which offers greater efficiency and may be easier to rig for fishing. Given your body type, I'd recommend looking at the Ocean Kayak Prowler Elite. It has a high volume (260kg/400lb max capacity) and the cockpit is a reasonable size for a long legged person such as yourself. If you are serious about buying one try to get a test paddle first - you will at least need to sit in one to see if you fit it ok. The Prowler Elite like many of the longer kayaks will benefit from a rudder (they don't come as standard) which allows you to hold course easier in following seas (conditions coming from behind you), but it is not essential. In strong winds the longer kayaks have a tendancy to weathercock and face the wind - if you don't have a rudder paddlers often have to paddle a few strokes on one side for one stroke on the other to keep the kayak on course. But there are plenty of kayak fisherman who don't fit them so don't see it as an essential item you need in order to get out on the water. If you are looking for more of a 'battleship' type kayak which gives up some speed for extra primary stablity (which is the tippiness you feel when you get on the kayak) then the king of barges would be the Malibu Xfactor. This is another high volume kayak well suited to the larger paddler. It may be a harder kayak to paddle as its quite wide but it will make a good fishing platform. Out of the two I'd recommend the Prowler Elite.
