Hold them down flat and just run your finger along the worm from the tail end up.

they will only freeze for a short while or they end up getting mushy.change the paper often and they will last a while anyway in the bottom of the fridge.

Thanks Dean, do they go mushy from repeatably defrosting & refreezing or do they go bad when just stored in the freezer?

you can only freeze them once mate and i think they deteriorate quickly in the freezer.

i've re-frozen blacks more than once, they do go mushy after the 2nd-3rd time, but a good trick is to stuff squid with them, good bait for coloured water after a storm, will give off plenty of scent. an alternative is to leave the guts in and salt them, after a week-or-two you can freeze them although they won't completely freeze, when needed you hook as normal, when they come in contact with the water they will re-hydrate. if your using frozen blacks,it's best to keep them in cling-film as this will stop the paper soaking out the juices....set out the paper, place cling-film over the top, then set them out with the usual space in between then roll them up,if you have'nt got c/film use pages from a glossy mag as this has less effect upon the juices leaking into the paper.
