its the same around hear too. i have to order bait 1 week ahead, and digging is s*** to. i tryed at hamble few weeks ago and only got 20 rag in 2 hours good luck

Know how you feel, its a joke here! Ended up digging but it was a struggle to get the amount i wanted. Ended up feeling rough `again`, so i`m going to go tomorrow if i feel ok

Is this a regular problem then, it used to be like that when I was a kid, I would have to order a week in advance but nowadays its never a problem here or I have never had a problem even on the days of the big comps

yes , when i was digging them i had to put loads back cos thay were green and ready to spawn and its normaly only a problem in jan , feb , and march. the rest of the year its never a problem

I used to walk the oyster beds over hayling and in season there were thousands of em !!!! all free swimming and as you say Monkeynuts next to useless. They fall apart.

I saw it as a nipper whilst fishing down by the blocks the slight surf was brown with them!

I've seen the rag free swimming like this too, when walking out on big low tides - dropping their 'milt'. They'd be so vulnerable to fish - but could it be they do this at this time because there is a lack of preditors ?

They have been all been spawn worm hear for about a month now.Are local baitdigger has had to by them in farmed stuff ,he said there were to prices for these and the cheap ones were crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
