Anyone know the best way (and easiest) to collect hermit crab.
I was thinking of getting one of those really cheap crayfish nets and putting it out somewhere.
Any advice welcome or even where i could buy some from as it's not going to be a regular bait i use, just on occasions for smuts.
If i make the effort i know where to collect a few peelers from, are they generally a better bait for hounds from the boat as they are from the shore just all the info i here says to use hermits.

Peelers for smuts is fine, for shore or boat, as for collecting Hermits, best with a pot over the side of a boat or asked your local friendly Potter if you can buy some from him.

hard back shore crabs seem to sort out the better size smoothounds from the boat. hermits may be hard to get because the whelk shells are not being put back when the whelks are removed so the hermits have nowhere to live.

Live hermits are like gold dust around the solent now like like karl said no where to live, We drop a pot the night before with a pout and dog fish in and get more than enough hard backs for a days fishing................ 4 or 5 little green ones 4/0 hook and float fish um great fun !!!!!!!!!
