Wanting to have a go at spinning or lure fishing from the beach at sandown.
Is there an "all-rounder" that everyone keeps in the box or boat for that special occasion when nothing else works?
also been reading about feathers.
basicly anything for cast and retrieve method.
thanks Paul

go for the good old dexter wedge! probably the most popular spinner and mackerel ans bass love it! as for plugs, in my opinion, the rapala J-11 is pretty much the dexter wedge of the plugging world!
feathers, cast em out, let em sink for abit wind down and pull the rod back sideways repeatedly, you will see others doing this, its simple.
spinning for mackerel is much more enjoyable

cool. i'll have a look for one.
would these work from the beach? is it similar to coarse fishing where the fish will only be feeding off the top when it's warm? or is it more a predatory thing.

cool. i'll have a look for one. would these work from the beach? is it similar to coarse fishing where the fish will only be feeding off the top when it's warm? or is it more a predatory thing. Pelagic fish like mackerel and garfish will feed anywhere between the bottom and the surface, it's just a matter of finding them. They generally feed nearer the surface when they are in a frenzy because it allows them to 'corner' the shoals of whitebait. Bass will feed with them too, eating both the whitebait and the mackerel! If you see seagulls diving into the water they are feeding on whitebait so it's a good bet there are bigger fish underneath.

Pjl when the surf is up at Yaverland you can toss anything that looks silver or resembles a sandeel into the waves and catch bass, normally the wind is into your face so light plugs are not practical, or you can use a light weight and frozen sandeel into the third wave or therabouts and just walk along with the tide, waders a good though.

Ah I should have said, low tide and turning is best imho.

which part do you find best? right up near the white cliffs or more towards the zoo?
