alot of these records are very small to the records now but some will never be broken like common skate monkfish the most hard to break must be common skate from shore 8lb's

I'd be really interested in where some of the shore records come from, even the present ones.
The only ones I'm vaugely aware of are:
Bass : RedWing Quay, Bembridge. Conger : Atherfield Smoothie : Burnt Wood(?)
IOW boys - care to add/correct any?

impresive reading i did'nt know you could get common skate around hear? ? and some of them shore records look imposable now,

yer loads in the 60's when I was a kid the local anglng club met every week in a pub where I live and above the fire was a row of pics all common skate.An old fisherman called Abbey used to trawl the Needles and catch them by accident and sell i in his chippy!!!!!!!!!!! Monkfish were pest then and were caught in beach sines for sandeel!! at Compton

shame that over fishing,not climate change has reduced this today....why the commercial's refuse to see this is beyond me,maybe when they've trawled the inshore clean they might admit to failing in the conservation side of fishing. most of all the government should take heed of such record's before it really is too late

I remember an uncle telling me that he caught a Common skate off the Needles, which went over 140lb,(rod and line) and was sent up to ST Mary's Hospital to feed the Patients, can't remember what year though, maybe late forties
