the lungs are inside you only need to take them out if you freeze the crab the flap at the bottom house the crabs sexual organs

Just leave the lungs in it won't make any difference. Only wimpy fish like pout spit the lungs out, proper fish like bass eat them whole and don't care.
Softies don't really freeze well, just use them fresh.

I got shown how to do the crabs the other day. Once you've pulled the legs and claws off then peel the shell away as you look at the crab from underneath the sides of the crab has the lungs in. They are a light brown colour, and come away with your fingers. Have a look next time you prepare one.

it makes me laugh, use them how they already are. all fish love peeler crab, they dont ask them to strip of there lungs claws back etc. thats why fish like bass and cod are stuffed with them whole when gutted

This debate all goes back to the business of taking the gills (not lungs) out of crab for human consumption because they don't taste any good. There used to be folk lore that crab gills were poisonous but of course it was just an old wife's tale. Bearing in mind that both bass and smuts eat crab as and when they can get them and neither have fingers and thumbs with which to remove gills from crab, whoever suggested in the first place that they should be removed was talking pure bull shine.

Caught plenty of fish on fresh peeler with lungs included, as the others say I don't think it makes a jot of difference whether lungs/gills/dead mans fingers are attached or not - as far as I'm concerned with them attached it makes the bait bigger and more attractive to the larger specimens!

I'd also suggest you spend a bit more time looking for proper peelers, softies aren't much good in my opinion, they only last a couple of days alive in the fridge, and the chemical that attracts the fish to them when they peel is very week. Where there's softies there's bound to be peelers if you look hard enough. They are definately around at the moment, found half a dozen last weekend. And the good thing about them is that they will last up to 2 weeks in the fridge if you treat them well, i.e. change water daily (just a little in the bottom) remove the ones that pop and keep them dry so they don't suck up any more water and totaly pop their shells. Good luck with your peeler hunting!
