Agreed Lee, as someone once said "a wise angler accumulates enough info over the years to know when not to waste his time" Great quote pete , but me , if a certain venue is not fishing well then i will still have a go , ill try different baits , different rigs , thats all the fun , when your not catching , have a good go at trying its still fun !!!! lol at the end of the day its not all about catching but participating in 1 of our great sports , although catching is a bonus !!!!! as for wasting time , ill never look at it that way ,as long as im by the sea , rod in hand , then im happy ;D ;D ;D........... dam i love fishing !!!!!!!! lee.

Agreed Lee, I regularly used to go when instinct told me not to, (just to kill off the urge) instinct quite often won! Lately finding the time is a challenge. The wife, kids & a business don't leave me much surplus time to get out there. This is why I'm forever eager for the coming months & the early light. I quite often will be on the beach prior to 1st light & then go to work after. At the time-being I'm chomping at the bit to go but my instinct is saying "save up your credits". Ignoring my craving is made a bit easier by reading the forum catch reports & adding my 'ten penith's' worth to the debate. Theres some interesting general chat, I've certainly benefited from it. Some may say that paying attention to any factor other than the tide times is over-complicating the matter in hand but we all know better than that. Answers to single posts may answer the same question for many members, the phosphorous post for instance had mixed replies that were all interesting & possibly regionally relevant to the fishing. Prior to anyone responding I received 4 personal messages from members asking what phosphorous was? I agree that anytime spent on the beach isn't 'wasted time' but if a certain condition/element kills the fishing completely then you may as-well be sunbathing & not wasting money on bait! Although the best experience is undoubtedly gained on the beach or boat I personally find that a basic understanding of all these little (or possibly big) things can only benefit. I be glad of the day when I can base life around my fishing but until then these little ponder's keep me quiet! The wife is just happy I'm not aimlessly shouting at the TV ;D

The wife is just happy I'm not aimlessly shouting at the TV ;D Yep, you sure said a mouthfull there Pete ! There's never enough time (for fishing) - the curse of modern living and all that. My working life is more one of 9 to 5 routine than I imagine yours is and I get gripped by the kind of insanity only the office bound, computer-shackled will know. If I don't get my regular 'fix', I tend not only to aimlessly shout at the TV, but also the radio, the dogs, the kids (they don't mind really - they just laugh at funny daddy), and various inanimate objects like the bus stop. This can continue until my wife says "for Christ's sake go fishing will you !" That said, I completely agree with what you say about optimising your fishing oportunities - informed by as much information as you can gather. I rarely let this get in the way though - for example, I'll go bass fishing at a favourite spot for 6 hours knowing full well that during that time there might be two or three 30 minute spells where actually contacting a quality fish is likely - and I don't care ! Go figure .

Go figure . Ha ha! ;D Yeh, just read it back I did bang on a bit about nothing much in particular! blame it on the non-fishing-syndrome! I'm the same regarding session time, my gears ready the night before & Im aiming to get a full day but am aware of the more favourable times during. The hours in between are equally as enjoyable. The point I was babbling on about was - if times really tight I will squeeze in a days fishing on what I consider a better prospect day rather than just any day, sometimes all that info pays dividends for us with little time to spare
