I use a 9ft spinning rod a penn prion rated at 10lb-17lb line which probably is 1-2oz, a okhuma epix eb 30 loaded with 9lb mono you can use braid its a personal choice. On the end i use a lure link, the lures I use are in order of damage to bass!! 1. terminator/tormentor mac colours floating 70mm 2. rapala j11 blue 3 maria angel kiss (saltwater) 4 rapala countdown (sandeel) 5 rapala surface popper I lure around rocks, ledges, piers, harbours, sandy beaches, steep beaches, its just trail and error the best bit is that you travel light so if its no good you can just walk on and find some where else to try.

tried with a one handed baitcaster and a multi and to be honest to me it was more hassle than it was worth.Yes you can spin with bait, use sandeel hook them head first ,though lures can work better though........

Hey tb , any carp gear is good for spinning , the longer the rod the better fun it is , also light line is good , i use a 11ft carp rod , a small reel ( carp again ) loaded with 10lb line , i love spinning for flounder with this gear, flounder spoons , baited with a few maddies , also i use the dexter wedge , deadly for the bass !!!!! and rapalas have a great range in lures ,go for it mate , its great fun !!!!!!!

For my money, its got to be the Shimano beastmaster range, iv got a 5 - 20g and a 15 - 40g, both are 8 foot long, and its a brilliant scrap every fish you catch, i use them perch and pike fishing, but the range has many different sizes up to about 100g casting weight. Perfect for any fish. I use 6lb line on my lighter rod and 10lb on the heavier one. Dont be worried about the length, you get a mega tussle and the rods are easily long enough and very light. The best thing though, is you can get them pretty cheap, even though there good quality rods. I have got a 6' 6" pistol grip diawa thats a one piece, but i dont really like that one. It casts 75g, and is too stiff for my piking, probably better for the bass, and the 8 foot rods are the better length. You can also cast them all day without getting tired. Good luck with it anyway.
