I fancy having a go for a conger but I'm not quite sure if they are catchable at this time of year? If they are catchable I wonder if anyone could point me in the right direction/area to have a go. pm's if preferred
Many thanks
Steve

If you have any chance, use whole mackerell or live/flapper pout as bait. I have never had one but i guess thinking BIG is the way to go.

Up North it is then ;D ;D
What about going west maybe south wales? Based where I am I have to travel quite a way to the sea anyway so an extra hour in the car isn't a problem.

I think its deep rocky holes you want to seek. Maybe search the net for good conger marks if you are willing to travel.

There are places in the bristol channel that chuck em up in the day you would have to do a bit of homework! best bait for conger is fresh fish, pout/mac pout being the best, running ledger or pulley rig tied with 150lb mono or try 200lb braid for your hook lenghts, use powerful quality tackle and a reel with a good line capicity and drag 7/0 hook size minimuim. good luck, they start showing mid march off the beaches around our way.

If you go to the british conger club website and post your question on their message board you should get all the info you need. www.britishcongerclub.co.uk/

Cheers for the help. I've found a couple of places to try on the outer reaches of the Severn. I'll let you know how it goes Steve
