Basically the Ron Thompson is a cloned John Holden aint it? Except the last time I checked, the John Holden one was £125 new and the RT was £50... Never had any problems with my RT (only used once though )

Well I got one and think its excellent, used for what its designed for, a wind break, keep the sun off your bait, shelter in showers. It wasn't designed to fish from in pouring rain. If thats what you want to do,go sit by a lake and catch Carp.

the RT is designed around the original john holden buddies, but with a few corners cut to make it so cheap, size, material crap metal structure ect.. which is plain to see when you compare the two if you want a good quality beach buddy designed for fishing in ALL weathers (as most of us do), then send abit and go for the john holden. made from a better quality more durable and alot more warterproof material, its more roomy and more stable in high winds, it will also last alot longer than the cheaper ones. a few guys in my club have had the same buddy used at least once a month for over 10 years. the original john holden buddy is probably the best on the market. not sure how the new one compares with it.
cos you never know when the weather is gonna turn round and bit you in the ass!
my buddy is neither, it cost me 50 bar new and is somewhere between the RT and JH, i belive it is a clone of the JH but different material and would prefer is anyday over the RT.
one last word of warning...... if you get a red RT buddy, it ends up looking PINK after a few hot summer days!! int that right Ed?!

dunno what you lot call fair weather, nor rough for that matter, but my rt buddy has held up in horrendous weather, ie.. force 8- 9 straight at me, torrential rain, etc, it is first and formost, a shelter, it keeps a whole lot more rain off than a bag on yer heed, it stable, and very quick to erect and pack away. the jh buddy is very good, but very expensive, and takes longer to erect, especially when rough. my rt is now about 2yrs old, nothing has brokem or ripped, and i expect to see another 2yrs from it. for £50 notes you cant go wrong. up...... www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFdTP8RwviEdown.... www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYSyFT4N9cQ&feature=user

Not knocking the the John holden, but 20 minutes climbing down Chale Cliffs, you need something light as possible, not something weighing the same as my wifes car! ;D ;D ;D
