Is it worth it? Are rays more likely to be caught at night anyway?
Just asking as they are some 2/3pm tides at the moment and I fancy a daytime session at the weekend so I can take my nipper.
Is it worth a try, or has the session already got
[glow=red,2,300]BLANK[/glow] written all over it in big, bold, glowing neon lights?
Thanks,
Steve.

I`m no expert but i think daytime ray fishing is just as good as night. Slippery would know more. I had my painted PB at chale 7pm in the evening with blazing sunshine. I hear the trick is to cast as far as you can for them. Try squid and sandeel cocktails

I've only had small (about the width of a dinner plate) thornbacks off the beach in daylight. The best ones have always been at night. Same goes for spotted rays. Depends where you are of course - I don't know much about ray fishing from the beach on the Island, but they're not necessarily a long way out. The best Thorny I've had from shore (9lb +) came from about 30 yds out ! This one:

If you are thinking Chale (though it is a bit too early in the year) then really it is the dark hours you want. A forty yard cast is far enough, sandeel or Mackeral. Sandeel best after a blow and it always fishes best after a good blow. Mind you you can pick up a nice bass down there in the daytime but anyway what a beautiful place to fish in the daytime. john

When fishing for rays you want a good colour in the water, at chale if you have this in the day then go for it it makes no difference day or night, you even get pout and dogs here in the day when conditions are right, in pest numbers!
