anyone do this over weedy or rough ground? i mean using a redgil or other light lure? i went plugging last week with only a few light rapalas, some small redgills behind a ball weight. had 2 schoolies on the plugs but couldnt get the hang of gilling in amoungst the weed kept getting snagged, went to a lighter weight and could get the distance.
how would you rig up a redgill under a bubble float? do you need any weight as well as the float?
cheers!

a snap swivel both side of the bubble float then a three foot trace to white gill or shad the bubble float works like a popper when dragged through the water so no weight for the gill.hope you can make sense of my waffle

bass rod or light beach rod, a choppy sea/surf and a barrel lead of 1-3oz
basically slide the lead on, then a bead then a swivel to about 3-5 feet of 20-25lb trace. bang it out and vary your retreive, slow, fast, sink and draw ect....
by the way, white gills kill!

Have you tried a floating diver behind a Bulrag float ? That works. If its really weedy try taking one treble off, just use the tail hook. The Bulrag float increases the casting distance considerably and a floating diver can float off from snags.

by the way, white gills kill! Spot on there I find the smaller the better, the ones I use are about one and a half inches long.

What sort of lure is an inch and a half long then mate. Is it made of rubber? tiny redgills mate, Either those or delta lures which come in packs of four for about £3. The tempest storm shads also work well and require very little, if any, weight.

egg bubble floats are best! Fill with water and just leave a small bubble of water inside.I put the bubble on by threading though the the two holes and tie to a small swivel and small bead like a running ledger to make it as invisible as possible to the fish can make the difference in a take or not! I use white eels & silver also black can work really well in bright conditions as from below it casts a good silhouette as White does on dull days.Fishing this method last night caught 5 biggest was caught by a friend on the white 4lb.
