If you dont get luck with red-gills try a selection of saltwater flies, a long tailed type with a pulsating tail will give itself action in he tide.

I used to do a similar trick at Exmouth when I lived there and often had a pollack or a bass. Had to do it because the bottom was very snaggy due to lowlife having slung all sorts of rubbish into the water over the years. I did find that having a long snood was a bit of a risk as it could tangle on occasions so I cut it down to about 50 cms. It still worked fine - the pollack would go mad for the small red deltas and the bass seemed happiest with a natural looking redgill of around 10 cms.
