used the reels properly for the first time last weekend, both are loaded with 40lb, .40mm teklon gold (around 250-270m) and 70lb suffix zippy leader,
the back of the island was as good a place to properly test them as any!
the reels sit nice and low on the butt, you get superb grip on the spool in the reel down position, but the gearbox forward design makes it more suitable for those who couldn't get on with the slosh. the 'foot' is also less steeply angled (than a slosh) and as a result, does not jam an abu grip lok up too tight to un-do,
casting wise... i think it will cast as good as most can give it, my slosh 20 would hit about 75% of my mag elite's range, and this gets rid of more line than the slosh20shv in a good cast, it just flies! so much so, that i'm still using them 'out of the box', i simply checked the brake blocks were fitted, loaded with line, and blasted them!
unlike when i first bought a mag elite, or used a 525mag for a day, the confidence the reel gives you is astounding, you just want to hit it from the off, still, i refrained, and waited until after a few 'lobs' before giving it a full pendulum, it just feels like it's not gonna stop, which is surprising for such a 'big' reel!
the retrieve is superb, fast, smoother than a baby's bum, the reel just feels so solid and comfortable, extremely well built and engineered piece of kit, balance on the rod 'in hand' is great too, no wobble like i used to sometimes get on the shv, they're truly a pleasure to use!
i know @ £119.99, that they aren't cheap, that they're some £20-40 more than the slosh or penn, and do a similar job, but the difference in the three reels is noticable the moment you pick one up, as much as i like the penn 525 and the slosh, the saltist makes islosh feel a little agricultural, and it makes the penn feel like a plastic toy!
