Sounds like fuel: 1. Is the choke stuck in the on position? 2. When it stops is there fuel in the carb? 3. Try it with the fuel cap loosened in case the vent screw is blocked.

neither. the bar that you can move to adjust the anglr of the engine according to the weight in the boat was for some reason missing, which i am assuming stoped the float chamber from filling up properly cos the engine was tilted to much.(think thats right) feel bit of a nob head now!
