well as the title explains,i actually managed to get out this morning, mainly just to have a mung about and to try my new reel out,
so i was up at 7am,down the postoffice to pick up my new SNOWBEE XSD,then back home to transfer the lines of my old reels on to my new one,a quick coffee and of to hayling,i parked at the end of southmoor road(i think thats whats its called anyway)and after setting up i walked through to the beach and headed towards the chichester harbour entrance,
my rig was the snowbee on my grauvelle montanna #8/9,with a slime intermediate wf8,with an 8ft leader,(4ft x 25lb butt,2ft x 15lb,2ft x 10lb maxima,)
i had afew casts as i walked round to the yacht club, and had acouple of tugs on a chartreuse and white bend back lure, which i put down to garfish as i saw a couple jumping, changing to clousers and deceivers didnt help,
i then changed to a leaded fry imitation with a white maribou tail,2nd cast as i retreived, it stopped dead, then tightened and ran to the left at a rate of knots, after a very spirited fight 5 mins later i slid a nice mackerel of 12 oz -1lb,up the beach, after another hour of casting and retrieving, and no more bites(even though there were a few small shoals of mackerel about)
i moved to another spot on hayling which i have fancied for a while,
setting up with a floater this time attached to 6ft of furled leader, ending in 6ft of 10lb maxima, with awhite delta lure on the end,2nd cast a shoal bass of about 8 inches, after another fruitless hour i went for a wander, and found a couple of marks which hold mullet and can be easily groundbaited and fished with the fly without spooking the fish, hopefully,
so all in all a good day,all fish swam away strongly,i always think that 1 fish taken on the fly is worth 10 on bait, ;D ;D
regards bob
