Guys...after some feedback on my engine performance. I have an Evenrude 150 direct injection 2 stroke on a 20 ft Wilson Flyer. The engine is just over a year old now. The boat hull is antifouled and the clean...but had a leak through the keel band that I had professionally repaired last year. The deck is made of shutter-ply and is slowly leaking rain-water into the bilge...despite lots of good repairs. So the deck wood is soaked and I regularly pump out the bilge. Getting it sorted this summer. Inspite of these issues I still hoped the top speed and fuel burn would be better than they are: max speed is 35 mph and a round trip of 60 miles is going through 100 litres at a steady 4'000 rpm. Any advice or suggestions ? Am I expecting too much ??

that fuel usage does'nt seem too bad to me,your boat is a heavy lump and being a dory your engine needs to work harder than a planing hull. my old pilot 590 with a yam 140 2/ burnt about 1.5 litres a mile so it had to go.

I have got the same boat, used to have a 100 suzuki 2 stroke and was using round about the same. Now got a 115 honda and getting just under a nautical mile a litre.

Thanks guys...I'll get the deck replaced and properly sealed.
I also note that the back end of the Wilsons sits low down in the water when at speed, so I may look at trim tabs to get it more level.
I would like to add that I do like the boat as a fishing platform. At anchor it is impecable and has a comparatively hugh deck...which soon is bloomin essential for all the stuff you need when boat fishing.

Hi I used to have a johnson 150hp direct injection 2 stroke (same as yours) on my 18ft raider and could get a mile per ltr bit more on a good day just take a bit of time working out the best rev's to run at + make sure your running on the right prop..............

You said it mate, carrying all you need. Whatever extra weight you carry you pay for in fuel,so get the bilges dry and reduce your deck weight. Can you not trim the engine,if not then you could wedge her out to get a more incline angle to level her, also as the above said make sure you are running the right prop, if you think you are then check to see if the leading edges are clean and not pited and scarred, you can reshape and polish the edges your self but if not done right then you could make the prop out of balance,it can be easier to fit a new prop instead.
