I recently inherited an old seagull engine with clutch 5hp.
When i got it it wasn't running and was about to be thrown out from my mates shed, well i think seagulls are great and indestructable when running so decided to get it going. After a bit of work i've got it running and although it is a bit hard to start (6 pulls ish) it does run without fear of conking out but is running strangely.
I use it as a back up engine at the moment, but the last time i was on the boat, i thought i'd start it up a run around abit with it.
Basically when running it and i have the throttle wide open, it will run fine for 2 mins then the revs drop right back to approx idle for 3 mins then back up high revs for 2 mins and so on.
I was wondering if anyone has any ideas what it could be. I changed the HT lead, spark plug and cleaned and gapped the points when getting it to start. I am suspecting it is the carb but i'm not sure. Any ideas, or have you had a similar problem.
Thanks Mike

Is the tank air supply retricted

The tanks air is fine, i checked that. I think it's a blocked jet from being laid up, or maybe a float problem. When i'm over next i'll take the carb off and give it a clean. If that doesn't work i'll post another question.
