Hi guys. been looking at getting a small boat. just for bobbing around in sandown bay. not been to view it yet as i'm not sure that the cash that i have is spare! all i know is that it's grp, 11ft with a 4hp engine with less than 20hours running time. it's got anchors, a fish finder, oars and a road going trailer. i know it's not much to go on, but does it sound good for £600? what should i check for when i view it? thanks

sounds ok mate. check for major scratches, visible holes. if anythings damaged ask him to drop the price a little.

sandown bay can get a bit lumpy sometimes and the trouble with small boats is that you always want to go further offshore than is safe. Its almost impossible to stay inshore when other boats are catching from offshore marks and you will want to follow suit. Sounds more like a harbour runaround than a boat to take to sea. Dont wanna sound harsh mate, but buy something bigger.

Although I have only got a 10 footer myself and a freezer full of bass I would agree with the lads above on getting at least a 12 footer, trouble is it then becomes a two man job and I havn't got any friends. Altogether now .......

My first boat was an open 13 footer with a seagull outboard. I managed fine on my own except launching on an open beach with surf running. If you are on your own, just make sure where you launch is sheltered and calm, and you should be OK if the trailer has decent rollers and a winch. (I used to launch an Alaska 500 with twin outboards regularly so it can be done with bigger boats)
