I have just discovered other anglers are catching a few Bass at my local fishing venue. It is in NE England and would not be considered a "HOT SPOT" for Bass but trying for a Bass will be a change from jigging for Cod.
I have a boat (launch from the beach) so can get afloat if conditions are suitable or if I go down to launch the boat and find too much surf I could fish from the shore. Am I likely to do better from the boat or from the shore? The boat is a sailing boat so I should be able to use a small amount of sail and troll but do not know how to start!
Thing is I am a total beginner to this type of fishing and all advice is welcome.
Thanks

trolling a lure from a sailing boat has got to be the best way! stealth mode Look for ledges and troll round them bass will normally be sat in the liegh behind the rock waiting for small fish to come over then nail them .Tide is important more the better and from slack high to the run of works here until it gets slacker then the fish will slow. Thanks Squidhead, I have been given the impression round here the fishing is best on the flood then dies on the ebb which is opposite to your experience. Will I usually find Bass close inshore/shallow water?
It seems everyone has a different favourite lure for Bass, from tiny white Eddystone eels to 12 inch plugs. I suppose I will just have to find out what works for me.
