After getting a Kayak about a month ago of fleebay, planned to meet up with Fishfingers to go for my maiden paddle yesterday off Hayling front. But my partner let me down, his other half decided to go into labour on Saturday night, how inconsiderate! Well hope it all went went well for them!
So partner less I decided that I had prepared enough to go out on my own and had been waiting for this for nearly a month! Set of from IOB at HT at 10.30am and paddled out to where a boat was anchored about 1/2 mile and started trolling a shad for Bass. The drift was directly west and I had planned to do some drfiting with a bottom rod down and plug for Bass at the same time. So headed east to other end of Hayling and forunately found a pot to clip on to. No takes on the shad yet and that was pretty much the story of the plug for the day despite swaping to a J-13 Rapala. Droped a worm down to see if anything was around and carried on plugging away. After about 30 mins noticed some knocks on the worm, but only little ones. This carried for about another 20 mins not connecting with anythying and mixing baits alternately bewteen rag and squid. Finaly got a good pull down on the Squid and connected with a small Thornie no more than a 1.5lb. The little bights kept coming for the next hour and pulled up 2 Red Mullet about 3/4lb each and a small bream, then it died off so decided to head a bit further east to infront of sandy point and troll for some bass again. No luck so at about 3pm decided to head back to IOB trolling when on the move and drift a few spots. On one drift met up with a guy heading further out for the Bass and had a good chat with him. He's a local (house on the front) and regularly goes out in his yak for Bass. He mentioned that Bass fishing this year has been poor, quite agree - appart from the odd large Bass there has been little around in the 2-7lb range.
Caught nothing else - only one hit on the lure - small. Got back at 5.30. Was great to get out and no major issues appart from Mobile getting wet (was using to take photo's) and going to the great mobile gig in the sky, hence no photos.
