Hi all, i thought i would bring attention to `cod head bob`s `fishing site and his section about salting down lugworm. I salted some down last year (as well as sandeel) and they worked a treat. As you know lugworm have to be gutted before you can freeze them or they go all manky, so in effect all you have is just the skin on your hook. With the salting method, you can salt them whole and use with the nice juicy guts intact. They go all hard after being in the salt for around a week, so they go on the hook lovely, and completely re-hydrate once in the water and look like you have just dug them. Check it out and give it a go.....salts cheap enough codheadbob.tripod.com/topmarks/id36.html

Nice idea, but I share the same thoughts as stevie - I don't think it really works on blow lug

Nice idea, but I share the same thoughts as stevie - I don't think it really works on blow lug it works a treat on blow lug. i did it last year and found it very handy when lug became scarce. obviously they arny as good as fresh lug but they still catch fish. its always a good idea to get hold of a pound of lug and salt them down cos you never know when your gonna need em but cant get em!

Its works on the yellow tails, i can vouch for that! you can fish yellow tails the same as blacks un-gutted or gutted you can also freeze them down as blacks,by far the best lug worm you can get....if you can get them as they live at the extreme low water marks the same as black lug and are only available to dig on springs the bigger the better ;D

As I don't live near the coast, I always salt my left over bait for my next trip, been doing it for years, it's never let me down, I would recommend salting lug to anybody, but fresh is best.

also works brilliant on Rag too if you live inland and it's gonna be a while before you get back to the salty stuff i haven't found a lug/rag you can't Salt i rate them better then frozen skins of course they can't beat the live stuff but it's grate them in the cupboard for last minute sessions
those plastic container boxes from the chinese takeaways are grate for storing them and don't forget once their nice and dried out you can take em out of the salt and then dry out your salt for the next batch

Eddie salted about 50 yellow tails last week , i had a look at them last night and they looked pretty good , apart from a few that burst like slugs , they turned out ok , and even caught for him last night i think
