Can anyone advise me on whether there should be a short length of rope between the ring and the buoy. Reason i ask is recently when i have gone to retrieve the anchor the carabina has also 'clipped' the anchor rope aswell, thus making it difficult to travel down the warp and impossible to get over the chain. My carabina has been tied pretty much with zero slack between the buoy. Propably not explained all that clearly but hopefully you will get the gist of my problem.
Regards
Dave

I got my ring from The Boat Shed ...upper Hamble...and it is split, so you can attach a screw locking oval shaped ring to the main ring and then onto the shckle of the bouy. This has never tangled...well it physically can't. This set up has never failed me.. pulls the bouy and hangs the anchor perfectly. Stainless Steve's ring is solid and doesn't allow you to easily detach it from the anchor line... this similar to mine www.boatersworld.com/product/156790180.htm Hope this helps Dave

Thanks Karl/Nick, i suspected as much, rather than fork out for a new ring to replace mine which is perfectly adequate, i will look to attach some rope between the carabina and the buoy which should sort this out.

Crusader we spliced a loop through the bouy eye then 12inches of rope then splice a stainless carabina to clip onto the ring . works good for us never had a prob in 4 years.

Hi I have one of Steve's split rings but you do need a large carabina WITH A LOCK to go through both end rings. I have had the lever open up, on another outfit, and watch the buoy drift away! Dave

Guys I use a threaded locking carrabina...similar to these pictured...there aint no way it can come loose and it is easy to remove. Got mine from The Chandlery Barge ...top end of River Hamble. Cheap and very effective www.outdoorgb.com/c/connectors_karabiners_and_hooks/

Here is a different design I came up with, been using it now for 18 months, no problems, works a treat and easy enough to make up. Details here

Isn't it strange how some things can get overcomplecated when people try to come up with new methods for old idea's, though I am not knocking it! When I was into boats we only ever connected the buoy to the ring via an 3/8 stainless shackle which then made it permenate.

That's a great idea for the trailer - not sure about the launching though....!
I've got to try it out....
