I am sure I read somewhere that sometimes when fresh cod is filleted small parasitic worms are found in the flesh. Has anyone come across this and if so what do you do about them?
Thanks
Graham

most white fish have em... nothing to worry about cos im pretty sure the high tempereture of cooking kills them off ;D if they caused humans problems then we would know about it by now

As Coddo says, most white fish have them. If I was gutting a fish, I'd look at the liver as a sign of it's fitness as food. If it's spotty or blemished I'd chuck it but otherwise it's ok as a rule of thumb

If you were eating it raw ie rollmops gravlax susi all you have to do to insure its ok is freeze the flesh for an hour and it would be fine.Cooked or raw. Andy

I put 2 sole in the sink one morning to wash and prepare them, after 2 minutes in some water, lots of little worms came out from under the scales, this freaked me out a little, but they still got eaten skinned lol.

If you check the stomach of good sized cod and bass you may well find quite a few worms (over a few centimetres in length). I don't let the missus see these, or she'd never cook fish again

I remember my old Grandad who use to work on the docks in Fleetwood, Lancashire telling me about "candling" the cod before they went off to some places; the clients insisted that the flesh was put onto a thin transparent slab that had bright lights underneath. The bright light shone through the fish flesh and the worms were then picked out of the flesh!!
