I have read they taste crap but also heard that about a few other fish which turn out to taste goooooooood!!Jumbo pout fillet.

People are put off scad due to the thick scales on the lateral line, just slip the fillet knife under and whip them off.

Scad have loads of oils in, and are pretty much as good as normal mackerel.
Strips will get you the normal whiting, dogs, pout etc and bigger baits are good for congers.

i remeber catching 1 at bembridge ledge keeping it live till st cathrines light sticking a 10/0 in it using as shark bait and at the end of the day letting it go to fight another day bloody hard old fish i tell you ;D

I caught a load up Yarmouth pier and kept 4 to use as bait,I never had a sniff of a bite with them!
