i am back again , my last thread is still being posted on regarding the safety equipment needed before going fishing in a boat. I am now starting the thread "does cheap mean nasty?" . my budget for my radio comes in at between 75 and 100 pound and i would like to know can i buy a vhf dsc radio for this kind of money , if so does anyone recommend any particular one, i have been looking at a cobra model . Would i be better off spending the same amount of money on a better spec second hand one ? its a minefield out there and i don't want to end up in pieces choosing the wrong one HELP!!

If you shop around you can pick up the Navman 7100dsc for a shade under £100. They do better models in the same range but the workings remain the same just the functions and keypads vary.

icom do some great radios but you may have to go just over the £100 but i think it would be worth it. will last for years.

I'd highly recommend all Standard Horizon kit, we have a VHF base unit, a back up handheld unit & our plotter is all Standard Horizon. To date (touch wood) its all been brilliant. I have also heard that they have an excellent after-sales service.

Mailspeed marine have reduced the Navman 7100 dsc from £154.99 to £84.99.
That is very cheap and the only reason is that Navman are re branding their stock as Northstar.
