You should be fine with 12lb for 28g dexters Ed. I use 10lb line straight through with 28g dexters, never had a problem.

12lb should be fine for the dexter, you may need more than 1oz of lead on to get the feathers out well though. Then you'd be pushing it on 12lb line.
I use 30lb Whiplash Crystal braid, the 20lb stuff is too thin. Tie a short length of 12lb Amnesia on as a rubbing leader, as braid and rocks don't mix. You can feel every movement of the lure and every bit of weed that hits it. Gives you a better chance of pulling out of weed too, due to the non-stretch nature of the braid.

I guess your worried about crack offs and landing fish?
Your never going to have a problem with 12lb line spinning, i use 12lb GR60 for carp fishing and you can chuck 3oz of lead 100yards with no worries of a crack off, i know guys who use 5oz leads with 12lb line with no problems at all, a 28gram dexter wedge is not gonna come CLOSE to testing this line
With regard to landing your catch ive landed carp to 35lb (two 30's two 35's and loads of 20's, ok im bragging now) on 12lb line in very tricky conditions (snags, weed beds, gravel bars etc) with out problems.
Just make sure its a good quality make. For spinning i would go with the GR60 range from insight, 8-10lb would be fine, honestly i havent found a line with the same abrasion resistants and strength anywhere else
Hope this helps

I use 20lb braid with about 6 feet of 9kg amnesia as a rubbing leader. I use dexters and other lures and can feel them move and wobble as I wind in. I've found using braid is much more responsive and better than mono.
The leader is important because if you have braid all the way through when you lift a fish out of the water you have no free play. I have lost a few fish when they have kicked when I have been landing them and the hook has been ripped out. That little bit of mono leader gives you a nice shock absorber. Having a leader has helped me land more fish than I did when I had braid all the way through.

For years, I fished exclusively with the spinner. I used 4lb line in fresh water and 8lb line in the sea, although I dropped to 6lb in estuaries.
I am currently loaded up with 8lb mono on my smaller rig and 15lb braid on the larger one. The 15lb also doubles as a light boat option in up to 30ft of water. It makes for some lively sport.
The thing to remember is the weight of the fish one is likely to catch. By and large, fish pull about 1/3 of their weight in water. (I got that from some research document at Aberdeen Uni).
The largest fish I've caught on 6lb line is a 12lb sea trout, which is probably, pound for pound, the strongest fighter in the sea.
8lb should, theoretically, handle a 24lb fish, which is heavier than the record shore-caught Bass.
I use up to 40g wedges/Tobys and the like. The 8lb line has no problem with that, unless the line catches during the cast......... and I haven't suffered that beginner's problem in many decades.
The secret of easy unstressed spinning is to let the rod do the work. Do not force the cast. Let it unwind on the flex of the rod. The lure will travel much further than a forced cast. The use of the rod flex also permits accurate placement of the lure.
The problem is, of course, the bite of the fish. I have never had a trout bite off my line. However, Bass are a different issue. To combat this, I tie on a short 30lb leader, of about hand's width.
I shall be heading out after Bass (Maw permitting) later in the year, using a magnetic bead attached to the leader. I shall also be experimenting with a more sophisticated application of the magnet, which should complement the wedge very nicely. I shall also try the development with a soft weighted shad.

Dunno about that mate, I dont do a lot of bassing but what I do is using live eels or mackeral from the boat and use 10lb flouro for my hook lengths. I`ve has bass upto 14lb and never even been close to being bitten off! Bass may have rough gums but as for teeth that bite through line, Ive never seen em. If you have a look at some of Sunnys posts he has landed some crackers on his mullet gear (4lb line I believe) and Im yet to hear of a report where he has lost one.

I recon you ould be safe enough mate cos its just gonna land on the beach about 3 foot behind you! 20lb line then your in trouble!
Im not saying use 10lb line for hook lengths for your style of fishing Drew, but just that there is no need to start putting biting traces on when spinning for bass.
