Been busy with the boat between work. I have put the new fuse board in (cover off for the photo) .... but awaiting tinned cable to really get stuck in to the re-wire job. Fitted a handheld spotlight The windlass is on, but I'm not happy with the installation, so it will need to come off and further work done before I'm happy to use it. It really needs to come further over to one side - my fault !!! Also needs additional structural support across the foredeck; but we need the temperature to rise before that can be done. This will look the same once I've finished the additional works. been clearing back some of the old repairs and like all Raiders she has a split in the apex of the roof. This will be solved by the radar arch - hopefully being made later this week - rain permitting. Next job was to solve the problem of how to install the Garmin network port and Transducer Amplifier. These items are too expensive to leave on the boat, so I needed a solution that allows me to remove them after each trip. I came up with this board, which will be secured with large butterfly nuts up under the bulkhead - inside the cabin. The cables linking these components are all twist connectors, so linking up each trip will only take 30 seconds; a much better option than arriving to find the boat broken in to and all the electrics gone !!!

it's all coming together now....as with all new fittings you sometimes guess the first time only to find that it has to be moved again ... all part of the fun but you will be dead chuffed when it's done.

Hi Nick, I've just looked at your last post with total shock!!!!! I have know of several Raider 18's but none of them have had problems with a split in the roof like this. Is this an original Raider or one of the latest produced in Poland. There must be alot of flex in the boat to enable this to happen.I would personally ask for some professional advice before you repair it, as specially as you will be increasing the stress and strains with the winch on the bow?
Regards Ed.

There must be alot of flex in the boat to enable this to happen.I would personally ask for some professional advice before you repair it, as specially as you will be increasing the stress and strains with the winch on the bow? Regards Ed. Ed, She's an English Raider and they all split in the same spot; dead centre on the rear edge of the cuddy. The roof flexes too much as the boat slams; and so develops a stress fracture. Interestingly the fractures don't seem to rapidly propogate across the flat part of the roof. The problem is readily solved by supporting and stiffening the central part of the roof. This stops the flapping that is only experienced at the rear edge of the cuddy. The cause is a lack of lateral support brought about by the styling of the sides of the wheel-house; those nice raked sides remove any verticle support. Its happened to Sharkey's and PeteB's Raiders as well. She's off tomorrow for the Radar arch; incorporating side supports. I'll post photos of the results; so that you can see how its stops further problems. Then once the weather warms up the tear can be glassed over to restore the cosmetic appearance.

What do ya think M8 No idea on the Quicksilvers - sorry - they look okay from afar, but like all boats I reckon the best option is to sea trial them in a f4. Cruise into the wind and drop the anchor for 5 minutes.... you'll soon know if you are in love or ready to chuck-up ;D Gotta be someone on the site who can give a steer on their Quicksilver

Very thorough Nick. The roofs easily sorted with a foam bar glassed in for reinforcement, thats one of our jobs for the spring. Loving the windlass, I dont know why but I didn't imagine it mounted there. Top Job mate!
Looking forward to the next installment.

I've realised that I am also going to have to foam-bar and glass it as well Pete. They never got the pipework finished today....so have to wait until tomorrow now for the finished result. But the down tubes were 'loose' fitted today and they follow the boat lines well. Good job the fishing is rubbish at the moment
