Agree to a large extent Sunny. I tend not to post unless something fairly spectacular occurs as I also don't believe that folk will be interested in my catching half a dozen whiting this time of year for example. I do try to post on tackle and knowledge subjects from time to time as those posts can be useful to novices and youngsters. I do belong to another excellent forum (no name to be mentioned) where the mods also kick out or reprimand juvenile and insulting behaviour. It still mystifies me why some people behave so badly when they almost certainly would not do so if they were met face to face on a beach somewhere. I can only assume that they have some kind of personality disorder. Eccles, this forum is at its best with stalwarts like yourself. Nothing wrong with being a member of sevaral forums and continuing to support this one. I post on the National Mullet Club forum, here and a few others; usually the same material slightly tailored for their specialist niche. heck I'm even a member of a Fench angling forum, one in Australia and one on the west coast of the USA....crazy eh ;D The Australian one is because a mate emigrated there. The French one because I wanted to research fishing there for mullet during our winter months. The origins of this forum were to get away from the nastiness evident on of WSF.... I don't think people deliberately set out to start a row...I think most often its just folks reading too much in to a brief few words and unnecessarily 'going off on one'...once the acrimony starts it is difficult to go backwards and you know the rest. If we stick to what we do best and what we have most in common...angling.... we will be fine tight lines Nick

Ref the spats my feelings are that it's best to stay clear and let people get on with it, if it gets abusive then mods to step in. Ref the reports either Snoops or myself general blog win, lose or draw - at least other anglers can then see if it's worth trying the same venue as us in similar conditions/tide etc, informative if not exactly sexy!

Having posted my full support in a positive way for the ole fart i too had it deleted, as there was nothing in it to deserve this i also would like an explanation as to why,
Sometimes some of my posts have also drawn negative comments, but hey thats democracy isnt it!!?. i understand they can sometimes get out of hand and thats why we have moderators ,but surely it dosnt take much to pm people and give a reasonable explanation why.
cmon guys us ole boys do contribute alot to B&B especially T.O.F.his banter is harmless. as alwas regards trigger.

Just joined and read this thread , It seems to me that all forums go this way after a while.Must be an internet phenomenon. The problem is that people can type what they like with no comeback,in real life and face to face they'd never say the things they do to peoples faces(no matter how much they say they would). I hope to enjoy my stay here and hopefully avoid upsetting anyone.

Trigger, I was upset too when TOF pulled out. I had hoped that his IOW comp would do well, especially considering the grand cause it was set up for. But as others have explained it clashed with another event. I'm sure that had the ensuing discussion taken place in a tackle shop then all would have been fine, but it didn't and things did start to deteriorate .....so I tried to delete a few posts on the thread and then finally pulled the thread as my intial efforts failed to calm the discussion. If your post got culled along with the thread then it was simply a casualty; colateral damage as the yanks say. To everyone, if I or one of the other mods pull one of your posts or a thread then just pm me and I will happy discuss it. Democracy is an unacheivable theory, it doesn't exist anywhere in the world at this time....ask yourself: who voted for the petrol prices in the UK, the Human Rights Act, British Summer Time clock changes and speed cameras ;D Anyway Trig.....more importantly, what have you caught recently ? Tight lines - Nick

I am an occasional visitor - which is also true of other forums to which I belong - but only because I have struggled recently to get out and fish. I am always happy to see reports whether or not about successes as they all provide information of some sort and often a good and/or humurous read. I will always put up my reports, but then it's rare that I catch something so spectacular that I'd wish to hide the mark from other anglers!
It would be a real shame if this forum died - we're all adults (I think?) and have no need to get into the squabbles that put people off from posting. New Year's resolution for each of us?
Anyway..... happy Christmas to you all!
Cheers and tight lines
Kev

Anyway..... happy Christmas to you all! Cheers and tight lines Kev Well put Kev. I also think it is about the conversation that follows a post. Yes everyone enjoys the read, but the best threads are often those that engage the rest of the forum in discussion. The way I see it is that when you put two, three or more anglers in a pub together and one of them relates a catch story then trying to shut the others up is hard work....everyone wants to chip in on the discussion with interesting accounts and contribution to the chat. Yet on a forum there can be a tendency to just say nothing....its strange behaviour. Its not that we don't appreciate the story, its just that we don't tend - on the whole - to comment. Some feel that just saying 'nice one mate' is not worth writing; but I reckon that there is nothing more encouraging than knowing that your fellow anglers have appreciated the effort you have gone to in writing an account. That's what makes a forum a success....that and sharing ideas and encouraging you to go out and fish because you have seen what is possible

As I had nothing to do on this wet afternoon I used Nippers account to see what I have been missing on B&B .
I have been busy up to today waiting for my toenails to get long enough so I could trim them.
Well we all have to have something to look forward to, don't we?
I have been reading the replies to this (so many, could it be people have realized what a forum is for?)
Still it seems to have cleared up a few things, possibly for the better.
(Incidentally, we all vote for petrol increases, BST, staying in Europe etc, every time there is a general election. If we really wanted to do something about it we could, but no one bothers. We just moan about it)
Same with fish stocks.
From what I have read today everyone has had a bad year, so will next year be, and the year after.
As I have said before we,,(the Anglers) should be putting pressure on local councils, government, Big Supermarket Chains, etc to stop the slaughter of the seas, especially in the breeding season.
The various fishing forums could band together, along with the fishing mags, and get their members/readers put the preasure on, after all there are enough of us out there.
But we don't.
Still why should I care , no other bugger does, besides I recon that in another day or so my finger nails should be long enough for a trim. The anticipation is overwhelming.
Happy New Year
T.O F
